Professional Workshop with Avatâra Ayuso (UK)

Category: workshop, Closes on March 4, 2019

A highly physical two-day intensive workshop for professional dancers gaining a first-hand experience with AVA DANCE COMPANY's Artistic Director Avatâra Ayuso. Throughout the two days, you'll receive an introduction to SCHEMA; Avatâra's Physical Thinking Tool developed throughout her career. Over the two days, you'll be led with a morning class in what Avatâra calls Volumetric Ballet, emphasising the body in motion in all 3 dimensions and set on world music (basic knowledge of ballet is required).

You will then move on to the basic movement principles of SCHEMA. This workshop is explorative and non-performative: its focus is on the play between analysis and instinct, and the use of structured improvisation both as a tool and an experience. In addition, if interested, participants have the option to request personal feedback at the end of the two days.

In Avatâra's words: "SCHEMA is a thinking tool to train movement investigators capable of creating complex, sophisticated and detailed movement. I use it with my dancers to broaden our perspectives on and approaches to what the body can do when improvising and devising tasks. You will enter this creative world with your own expertise and background, and I hope that you will leave it with some inspiration for your own creative practice."
